Routine basics
Introduce One New Skincare Product at a Time
Changing several products together makes it difficult to identify the source of a reaction. A deliberate introduction gives you a clearer record of what changed and when.

Start with a practical check
Keep the rest of your routine stable. Follow the label and review the American Academy of Dermatology’s home product-testing guidance before applying a new product widely. Record the start date and any discomfort.
Understand the tradeoff
A successful small-area test does not guarantee that a product will never cause a reaction. Home testing also differs from medical patch testing performed to investigate allergy.
A real-world decision
If you buy a cleanser, moisturizer and serum together, resist starting all three on the same night. You can evaluate one change while keeping the others unopened and within their return terms.
Before you decide
Keep the packaging and directions available, and distinguish personal preferences from health concerns. The best purchase is one that fits your needs and can be used as directed. You do not need to add a product simply because it appears in someone else’s routine.
